Why Us?

Autism Clinic

We have the only comprehensive program of its kind in a freestanding children’s hospital in Arizona.

At our Autism Clinic, your child can be seen by all of the specialists they need, all in one place. Our goal is to diagnose autism early, provide the most comprehensive assessment and treatment plan, and provide families with support to best take care of your child. Our team works with the child and family to apply effective learning and behavioral interventions to promote growth and development.

We aim to understand every child’s strengths and needs, to determine what is typical and what is not, and to find access to services that will help a child develop as well as possible. There is a range of severity in children with autism that makes it difficult to predict how a child will function as an older child and into adulthood. What we do know is that the earlier in life a child is diagnosed, the sooner the child can receive treatment.

Innovative diagnostic options

The Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children's collaborates with the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center and Behavior Imaging Solutions on a pilot program for a new autism diagnostic option called the Naturalistic Observation Diagnostic Assessment. This accurate and effective autism diagnostic service uses smartphone technology and a team of clinicians trained for assessing autistic behavior to diagnose or rule out autism.

Promoting growth and development with a team approach

Our multidisciplinary team of specialists participates in the evaluation and treatment of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Team members from developmental-behavioral pediatrics, child psychiatry, psychology, gastroenterology, neurology, audiology, occupational therapy, speech therapy and others as needed are on-site to treat the unique needs of each child.

Depending on your child's needs, the physicians you may see include:

  • Nutritionists
  • Audiologists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Speech/Language Therapists
