Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders

Our Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders is the largest pediatric program of its kind in Arizona, providing complete care for children diagnosed with malignancies and hematologic diseases.

Using a family-centered approach, the Center provides comprehensive, personalized care to every hematology and oncology patient.  Each child has his or her own team of physicians, nurses, social workers, physical therapists, nutritionists and more who provide care throughout the treatment and healing process.

The Center's team includes many specialists, each with a specific area of expertise within the hematology and oncology fields.  Encouraging each provider to specialize in certain diseases has allowed the Center's team to collectively keep up with the latest advancements in the treatment of cancer and hematologic disorders.

Support Services

When your child is diagnosed with cancer or a chronic blood disorder, it can be emotionally overwhelming. Not only are you worried for the health of your child, but you wonder how you’ll manage the next few days, months and maybe years of treatment.

That’s where we hope we can help.

Our medical team at the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders understands the emotional and practical impact of what you’re going through. That’s why we have a team that will work with and support you and your family as your child receives professional and compassionate care.

Here are a few of the services offered to our patients and their families:

Activities and Camp — From art programs and roller-skating, to zoo visits and camping, we are committed to keeping spirits up and providing social activities for patients and their families. It’s about more than just a break from the hospital — it’s about fostering a community of children and their families who can support each other through treatment and beyond.

Child Life — This state-of-the-art play area provides patients and their families an escape from daily hospital life. Activities include pool and air hockey tables, kitchen and cooking area, a performance stage, a theater/gaming wall and more.

Pet Therapy — Our Animal-Assisted Therapy Program is a great way to take advantage of the physical and emotional benefits of animal interactions. Our trainers are nationally certified (as are our animals), and these trainers coordinate group events, bedside visits and more.

School — Our on-site school (1 Darn Cool School) and our school re-entry programs ensure your child keeps up to speed on the education side of things. It’s a productive, positive environment that helps maintain a normalized routine and a healthy mind.

Social Work — When a child begins treatment, it can be frightening for patients and families alike. Our on-staff social workers are here to help you navigate this difficult time, providing resources that can truly be lifesaving.
