Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R)

Our Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Department is focused on continuity of care and longitudinal follow-up, which are key for our patients who are continually growing and changing. Our goal is to maximize functional potential while minimizing secondary complications for the children and adolescents we treat. The office team includes our physicians, nurse practitioners, medical assistants and front desk staff.

A physiatrist is a physician specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation. These specialists focus on treating medical and rehabilitation concerns associated with physical and neurologic problems that lead to difficulties with function. Our pediatric physiatry physician services incorporate the medical and functional management of issues related to development, impairment and disability.

Our pediatric physiatry team also leads the Phoenix Children’s Pediatric and Adolescent Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, a twelve-bed, comprehensive acute inpatient rehabilitation program accredited as a Specialty Program by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Our Pediatric and Adolescent Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit is the only such facility in the Valley, the state and the region. Our department is staffed by fellowship-trained pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians. In addition, our pediatric physiatry team provides acute care consultation services throughout Phoenix Children’s.
