Learn more about the Pediatric Residency Program at Phoenix Children’s.

On behalf of our program leadership, faculty, residents, and staff, welcome to the Phoenix Children’s Pediatric Residency Program Alliance.  Our mission is to graduate residents that are clinically strong, skilled in patient safety and QI, research-oriented, compassionate, with a desire to serve the community, and successful at practicing personal wellness.

The Phoenix metro area is nearly 5 million people providing an environment for our residents to care for a diverse population, but as the only free-standing children’s hospital in the state our catchment area includes all children in the state.  Our residents have opportunities work with underserved and vulnerable populations through Valleywise Health, UMOM and our Homeless Youth Outreach Clinic and mobile van.  Residents can spend time learning about border health (Douglas), rural health (Cottonwood) and Native American populations (Tuba City) through elective experiences.  In combination with continuity clinic, these experiences emphasize the skills needed to become a culturally competent generally pediatrician.

Residents are exposed to both inpatient and outpatient pediatric subspecialties through their time at Phoenix Children’s. The hospital is ranked in 8 Children’s Specialties and recognized as the #1 hospital for children in Arizona and #3 hospital in the Southwest by U.S. News. Just like Phoenix and the hospital system, the number of ACGME and non-ACGME accredited pediatric fellowship programs continues to grow in both number and size. The pediatric subspecialists and fellowship programs afford our residents the opportunity to engage in research, mentorship as well as a chance to continue their training in Phoenix.

When not at work, our residents enjoy the benefits of a major metropolitan with a climate that supports being outdoors year-round.  From snow skiing in Flagstaff to hiking the red rocks of Sedona to catching a Broadway show at the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Gammage Auditorium, there is always something to do.  We are a welcoming, casual, young, and growing community that looks forward to adding diverse residents to our program that have a passion to advocate for the best possible care for their patients. We thank you for your interest and encourage you to reach out if you need further information.
