Last year, more than 400 children under the age of 18 were diagnosed with cancer at Phoenix Children’s: more than one patient per day. That makes the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) at Phoenix Children’s one of the 10 largest children’s cancer programs in the United States.
The CCBD at Phoenix Children’s is staffed with physicians and advanced practice providers (nurse practitioners and physician assistants) who are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of childhood cancers. Additionally, the Center includes nurses, pharmacists and mental health therapists as well social workers who focus on educating and caring for our patients and their families.
We provide the most up-to-date cancer care available. Our physicians have individual specialties that cover the spectrum of childhood cancers, like leukemia, lymphomas, solid tumors and brain tumors. The Center also has a robust research program, and many of our specialists participate on national and international research projects. Additionally, involvement in cooperative groups helps ensure that patients in the CCBD have access to the most promising, cutting-edge treatments available.
A cancer diagnosis impacts the entire family. Phoenix Children’s Child Life experts help maintain age-appropriate activities aimed at therapeutic coping with the medical challenges that our patients and their families are experiencing. Patients also have access to support services like physical, occupational, speech and animal-assisted therapy from our four-legged volunteers. Our staff is ready to help patients and families navigate some of the most challenging times of their lives.
If you have questions or concerns about your child, the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Phoenix Children’s is here for you and your family, from evaluation and the best comprehensive treatment to services and support to help you cope with the challenges of pediatric cancer.
Together, we can help our children stay healthy and whole.
