The Pediatric Epilepsy Program at Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children’s Hospital for the first time has been accredited by The Laboratory Accreditation Board of the American Board of Registered EEG Technologists (ABRET) for its excellence in conducting and interpreting electroencephalogram (EEG) tests for patients throughout Phoenix Children’s.

The accreditation recognizes the expertise of staff and processes in place in the EEG Lab within Barrow at Phoenix Children’s. EEG tests are used to detect brain abnormalities like seizures. The lab was awarded the accreditation based on the technical quality of its EEG, as well as the policies and procedures in place within the lab.

“Phoenix Children’s Hospital is proud to be a certified lab for pediatric EEG,” said John Kerrigan, MD, director of the Pediatric Epilepsy Program. “Our technology staff works hard to get the best possible study for each and every child that we have the privilege to test.”

The accreditation is good for five years. In addition to EEG testing, the Pediatric Epilepsy Program at Barrow at Phoenix Children’s uses state-of-the-art procedures and technology, as well as alternative options to treat patients with epilepsy.

Dr. John Kerrigan is available for interviews along with a tour of the EEG Lab by request. Please contact Media Relations if interested.
