The Valley Toyota Dealers Association (TDA) announced today that they will match up to $250,000 toward the new Emergency Department and Trauma Center at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. As the Phoenix Children's Hospital Foundation nears its goal of raising $40 million to fund the new facility, the TDA plays a major role in raising the last $500,000 needed to achieve that target. Together, the TDA and Phoenix Children’s are asking the community to help raise the remaining funds of $250,000.
“The Valley Toyota Dealers Association has worked with Phoenix Children’s for more than 15 years and we continually see the amazing work that they do, whether it be taking care of our own children or the children of the community,” said John O’Malley, President of the Valley Toyota Dealers Association. “We hope the community comes together to raise the remaining amount for this new facility and help Phoenix Children’s continue to be one of the best pediatric hospitals in the country.”
Phoenix Children’s serves as the only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center in Arizona. The current facility was designed to see 22,000 children per year, but sees more than 80,000. The new facility will be able to accommodate 100,000 annually, answering the growing demand of the department. The new Emergency Department will have 72 private exam rooms compared to 43 room in the current facility, and capacity for trauma patients will increase from 4 to 9 patients.
“The new Emergency Department will make the world of a difference for our staff and patients at Phoenix Children’s. We will now have plenty of space and capability to serve patients and families who come to us,” said David Notrica, M.D., Trauma Center Medical Director at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. “It is very positive to see local organizations, such as the Valley Toyota Dealers Association, come together to support our new facility.”
The $250,000 donation pledge is in addition to a 15-year ongoing partnership in which Toyota has donated more than $1 million to the hospital. In recognition of their generous donation, Phoenix Children’s will permanently name one of the clinical staff work areas after the TDA.
As a continuation of the partnership, the TDA and Phoenix Children’s will work together to further educate families on safety topics, specifically the importance of water safety in Arizona. According to the hospital, drowning is the number one cause of injury-related death in the state for children ages 1 to 4. The two organizations will raise awareness on how to prevent drowning, especially as the summer months are officially here and many are taking to the pool to stay cool.
