About A. Brian Mochon, PhD
Brian Mochon, PhD, is a pediatric clinical microbiologist who serves as the Director of Clinical Microbiology at Phoenix Children's. He specializes in the diagnosis of infectious diseases and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
Dr. Mochon graduated with a Bachelor of Science in microbiology and molecular genetics from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). After graduation, he worked as a public health microbiologist at the Orange County Public Health Laboratory in Santa Ana, California. It was during this time that he was inspired to return to school and pursue a doctorate in microbiology.
Dr. Mochon received a Master of Science in microbiology and immunology from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans and finally a doctorate in biological sciences from the Department of Biological Chemistry at the University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine in California. Dr. Mochon then completed his fellowship training in medical and public health microbiology in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UCLA's David Geffen School of Medicine in Los Angeles. Prior to joining Phoenix Children's, Dr. Mochon served as the system medical director of clinical microbiology for a large integrated healthcare system.
Dr. Mochon is a diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology. He also holds dual appointments in the Departments of Pathology and Child Health at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix. Dr. Mochon has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and chapters in medical textbooks. He also has served on several national professional committees for the American Society for Microbiology, the Clinical and Laboratory Standard Institute, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America, as well as an invited speaker and moderator at national medical conferences and meetings.
During his free time, Dr. Mochon enjoys backpacking, reading, traveling, and spending time with his wife and son.
