About Alexandra M. Thompson, MD

Alexandra Thompson, MD, provides primary care at Phoenix Children's Pediatrics for children of all ages - from newborns to adolescence.

The opportunity to care for patients from different backgrounds with a wide variety of conditions led Dr. Thompson to Phoenix Children's. Her connections to patients and their families during her residency inspired her to stay. Building relationships with her patients as they grow brings her joy and gives her a sense of purpose.

Dr. Thompson's childhood pediatrician was her example of what a kind, gentle and knowledgeable provider should be. Her parents, who immigrated from Jamaica instilled in her a strong work ethic and emphasized the importance of helping others.

Dr. Thompson earned her medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque. She completed her pediatric residency at Phoenix Children's, where she served as chief resident. During her residency, she received the IPASS Award for her engagement in patient-family centered care. Knowing the importance of research in her field, Dr. Thompson has published in medical journals and presented at professional conferences.

Patients are always at the center of Dr. Thompson's care. Understanding that parents know their children best, she listens closely to create a care plan with which everyone feels comfortable.

When she's not working, Dr. Thompson enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter and dog, Barkley, as well as fellow mom friends. She also enjoys trying new restaurants in Phoenix and loves traveling and learning about different cultures.
