About Bernice A. Agana, PhD

Bernice A. Agana, PhD, DABCC, is a clinical chemist for Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at Phoenix Children's. Her areas of specialty include data analytics, mass spectrometry, proteomics and metabolomics, which involve studying molecules and proteins to better understand diseases.

Dr. Agana earned her undergraduate degree in biochemistry at the University of Ghana in West Africa. She then completed a Master of Science in chemistry at Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri. She earned her doctoral degree in biochemistry from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Agana completed a fellowship in clinical chemistry at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Maryland.

She is board certified by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry and the National Registry of Certified Chemists in clinical chemistry. Dr. Agana has earned numerous awards, grants and recognition from organizations such as the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM) and The Association for Mass Spectrometry & Advances in the Clinical Lab (MSACL). She contributed a chapter to the Encyclopedia of Cell Biology, Second Edition, as well as a number of journal articles in Clinics in Laboratory Medicine, The Journal of Applied Laboratory Medicine, Cancer Research and others. She has presented at national conferences and serves as a mentor for the Society of Young Clinical Laboratorians.

Dr. Agana enjoys reading, designing clothes and spending free time with her family.
