About Christopher L. Knoll, MD
Christopher Knoll, MD, MA, is a pediatric cardiologist and Interim Medical Director of Ventricular Assist Devices at Phoenix Children's. As a member of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) and Heart Failure/Transplant teams, Dr. Knoll provides expert, integrated care to patients in the ICU, step-down unit and cardiac clinic.
Dr. Knoll graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of California in Santa Cruz, California, and a master's degree in medical science from Loyola University Chicago in Chicago. He earned his doctoral degree from the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago and completed his pediatrics residency at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. Dr. Knoll trained as a fellow in pediatric cardiology at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford Medical School in Palo Alto, California. He completed advanced fellowship training in pediatric cardiac intensive care and pediatric heart failure, cardiomyopathy and transplantation at Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston.
In addition to treating patients, Dr. Knoll is a clinical assistant professor of child health in the Division of Critical Care at Phoenix Children's and the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix. He is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology by the American Board of Pediatrics.
Dr. Knoll has been an invited presenter at national conferences on topics including bioethical issues in ventricular assist devices and the best care for managing a patient with arrythmia in the cardiovascular intensive care unit. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs, the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society, the Advanced Cardiac Therapies Improving Outcomes Network (ACTION) and the National Heart Review Board for the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS).
When not caring for his patients, Dr. Knoll spends time with his wife and sons, sometimes vacationing to national parks. He also enjoys running, biking and exploring the topic of aviation.
