About Erik G. Ellsworth, MD

Erik G. Ellsworth, MD, is a cardiologist and the medical director of Advanced Cardiac Imaging at Phoenix Children's. His expertise includes pediatric cardiology, echocardiography, cardiac MRI and neuromuscular disorders.

A fifth-generation Arizonan, Dr. Ellsworth earned his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. He earned his medical degree and completed a pediatric residency at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. He then pursued a pediatric cardiology fellowship at Texas Children's Hospital Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, followed by a cardiac MRI fellowship at Arizona Pediatric Cardiology of Phoenix Children's Hospital.

Dr. Ellsworth is certified in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology by the American Board of Pediatrics. He is a member of the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, American Society of Echocardiography, Society of Cardiac Magnetic Resonance and the Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics.

Knowing the importance of research and publishing to advancing his field, Dr. Ellsworth has published in professional journals such as Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Quality and Safety. He's been an invited speaker at numerous international and regional conferences. Committed to educating the next generation of physicians, Dr. Ellsworth serves as the pediatric site director and an assistant professor for Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine, and an assistant professor at the University of Arizona and Creighton University medical schools.

When it comes to patient care, Dr. Ellsworth believes in empowering his patients and their families in their own medical care. He encourages shared decision-making and provides physical and emotional support throughout their health journeys.

In his free time, Dr. Ellsworth enjoys traveling with his family, hiking, running and scuba diving. He also enjoys singing, playing violin and cheering for the Phoenix Suns.
