About Jamila G. Hiasat, MD

Jamila Hiasat, MD, specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. She provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for children with eye problems including the management of congenital and pediatric cataracts, corneal diseases, strabismus and retinopathy due to premature birth.

Dr. Hiasat is proud to work at Phoenix Children's. Modern technology at Phoenix Children's is something Dr. Hiasat is grateful for since she feels it helps her securely provide her patients with better visual results and the comprehensive specialty care they deserve.

Dr. Hiasat has completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of Jordan where she served as chief resident in her graduating year. She then completed her fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Before joining our team, Dr. Hiasat was an assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh College of medicine where she was involved in clinical research, ophthalmology residents' and fellows' teaching and education.

Dr. Hiasat has successfully completed numerous international ophthalmology exams. She was ranked in the top 0.1% of examinees worldwide by the International Council of Ophthalmology. Dr. Hiasat is affiliated with many professional groups, including the American Academy of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, the World Society of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, the American Medical Women's Association, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the International Council of Ophthalmology and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

She has also co-authored book chapters on pediatric ophthalmology and given presentations at national and international conferences.

Dr. Hiasat had never contemplated a career in pediatric ophthalmology before seeing a white eye reflex in a baby during medical school. The baby was diagnosed with a rare type of eye cancer, which was successfully treated, and as a result, his vision was saved. "The experience of being able to preserve life and vision was incredible," she explains.

Dr. Hiasat is dedicated to helping patients and their families. "As doctors, we have the honor of making a difference in the lives of our patients. I am committed to giving my patients the best care possible to improve their vision and preserve their eyesight now and for the future," she explains.

Outside of her practice, Dr. Hiasat enjoys spending time with her family and friends as well as participating in volunteering committees for medical education and humanitarian missions. She also loves to spend time biking and hiking in Arizona.
