About John S. Jones, MD
John S. Jones, MD, is a pediatric anesthesiologist specializing in cardiac and transplantation anesthesiology and pain medicine. Dr. Jones is the founder and previous Medical Director and Section Chief of the Phoenix Children's Pediatric Pain Medicine Program, one of only eight pediatric Centers of Excellence nationally recognized by the American Pain Society, and the only one of its kind in the Southwest. Dr. Jones has also served as the Chair of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, and the President of the Medical Staff.
Dr. Jones has spent his entire career at Phoenix Children's. As a student, he worked with Dr. Paul Bergeson, the founding pediatrician of Phoenix Children's and Dr. Kim Manwaring, Phoenix Children's first pediatric neurosurgeon, inspiring him to become a pediatric physician.
After earning his medical degree at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Dr. Jones completed an anesthesiology and critical care internship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer. He completed an anesthesiology residency at The New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center followed by a pediatric anesthesiology and critical care fellowship at Children's National Medical Center.
Dr. Jones is a member and has served on committees of numerous professional organizations, among them the Society of Pediatric Anesthesia, the Society of Pediatric Pain Medicine, the Congenital Cardiac Anesthesia Society, and the American Society of Anesthesiologists. Dr. Jones also has been named a Top Doctor by Phoenix magazine and a Health Care Hero by Phoenix Business Journal.
Understanding the relevance of advancing his field through education and research, Dr. Jones has presented at professional meetings and published in numerous professional journals.
Dr. Jones believes in patient-centered, family-supported care that includes quality medical care and emotional and spiritual support. He focuses on a team approach that strengthens relationships between patients, families, and providers to provide the best care and outcomes.
When he's not working, Dr. Jones stays busy participating in church activities, developing real estate projects, traveling, scuba diving and underwater photography, trail running and obstacle course races, and spending time with his wife and three grown children and their families. In addition, Dr. Jones has been a part of numerous Operation Smile international medical missions.
