About Joshua D. Koch, MD

Joshua D. Koch, MD, is a pediatric critical care specialist and Division Chief of Cardiac Critical Care Medicine and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Phoenix Children's. Dr. Koch is skilled in managing pediatric medical conditions that require treatment in the cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU) or the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU).

After graduating with his bachelor's degree from Trinity University, Dr. Koch earned his medical degree at the University of Kansas. He completed a residency in pediatrics at the University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where he also completed a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine, serving as chief resident and chief fellow in both training programs.

Dr. Koch is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in pediatrics and pediatric critical care medicine. He is an active member of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society, the Pediatric Critical Care Colloquium and the Virtual Pediatric Systems PICU Advisory Board. He serves on a number of other councils and committees dedicated to ensuring high-quality patient care and safety.

Dr. Koch's interest in clinical research focuses on optimizing neurological outcomes for critically ill infants and children, as well as preventing cardiac arrest and improving post-cardiac arrest management in the intensive care unit. He has published research in peer-reviewed journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, the World Journal for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery, Cardiology in the Young and Current Opinions in Cardiology. He also has presented at World Congress of Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society meetings.

Dr. Koch invests time in training new physicians as an assistant professor at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science in Rochester, Minnesota, and an associate clinical professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix and the Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska.

In his free time, Dr. Koch enjoys reading, hiking and playing video games with his children.
