About Kevin L. Hummel, MD

Kevin Hummel, MD, is a pediatric cardiologist, critical care medicine specialist and Medical Director of Heart Center Quality at Phoenix Children's. Dr. Hummel has a clinical interest in cardiovascular intensive care, critical care medicine, the treatment of congenital heart disease, health system improvement and value-based care.

Dr. Hummel earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Arizona. He completed his pediatric residency at Vanderbilt University and the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. He completed his fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at the University of Utah Health in Salt Lake City, and fellowships in pediatric cardiology at Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston.

Dr. Hummel is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in pediatrics, pediatric critical care medicine and pediatric cardiology. He has published research in peer-reviewed publications including The New England Journal of Medicine, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, among many others. In addition, Dr. Hummel has presented at the World Congress of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery.

He serves on the board of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Intermountain area. He also serves on committees of the Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Consortium (PC4), the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society, the National Quality Forum and the American College of Medical Quality. In 2019, he was a clinical scholar of the American College of Medical Quality, and in 2022 was named a Young Investigator Award Finalist by the American College of Cardiology.

In his free time, Dr. Hummel enjoys cheering on local sports teams, as well as being outdoors and spending time with his family.
