About Kristen D. Farnsworth, NNP
Growing up, Kristen Farnsworth, NNP, had not considered a career in medicine. But once she began volunteering on a hospital's pediatric floor, she realized medicine would bring together her love of science and caring for children.
"I have always enjoyed working with children," says Kristen, a neonatology nurse practitioner at Phoenix Children's. "Their perspectives are refreshing and positive. It is fascinating to watch infant's growth and development, the change in short periods of time is nothing short of miraculous. I am fortunate to work in an area of medicine where we see patients exceed our expectations."
With every tiny patient, Kristen strives to provide collaborative care with subspecialist to optimize outcomes. She believes family participation in healthcare is invaluable.
"Parents and families know their baby the best and help guide our care plans," she says.
"Being able to provide a comprehensive care not only in the Nicu but once families leave our unit after discharge helps reduce the fear and anxiety parents may feeling," Kristen says. "Knowing Phoenix Children's continually strives to be the best in the business helps me feel confident I have the support needed to care for my patients."
Outside of work, Kristen enjoys spending time with her husband and children. She has been actively involved in her children's school including being recognized as volunteer of the year by their school district.
"Being able to continue to invest in children outside of work is important to me," she says.
