About Matthew J. Carter, DO
Matthew Carter, DO, is a pediatric critical care physician at Phoenix Children's. In addition to treating critically ill children of all ages in the intensive care units, Dr. Carter also has a focus in medical simulation, critical care transport and medical education.
After graduating with a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, Dr. Carter earned his medical degree from Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Parker, Colorado. He trained in pediatrics and served as chief pediatric resident at Michigan State University and Sparrow Hospital in East Lansing, Michigan. Dr. Carter completed his medical training with a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at Phoenix Children's.
Dr. Carter is board certified in general pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, along with several other professional organizations. He is a clinical faculty member for multiple medical schools in the Phoenix area including the University of Arizona, Creighton University, Mayo Clinic, A.T. Still University and Midwestern University. Dr. Carter has been recognized many times as the attending physician of the month by medical residents. In 2023 he was awarded the Phoenix Children's Golden Stethie, which honors a physician who excels in patient care and collaboration with members of the medical staff.
A frequent presenter at local and national meetings, Dr. Carter has been an invited speaker at conferences hosted by Phoenix Children's, The International Pediatric Simulation Society, the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the National Association of Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Physicians, among others.
Dr. Carter enjoys spending his free time with his wife and children. He also likes playing and coaching soccer, working with the youth at his church and in the community, as well as exploring new hobbies and places to eat.
