About Melanie R.F. Gropler, MD
Melanie Gropler, MD, is a pediatric cardiologist at Phoenix Children's. Dr. Gropler has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular conditions that affect children, as well as the use of cardiac imaging procedures such as transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography. She cares for patients before birth and throughout their childhood.
Dr. Gropler enjoys working at Phoenix Children's because of the hospital's commitment to growth both clinically and academically.
After graduating with a bachelor's degree from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, Dr. Gropler earned her medical degree from University of Cincinnati School of Medicine in Cincinnati. She completed her pediatric residency training at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago and Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Gropler finished her pediatric cardiology fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and her pediatric advanced cardiac imaging fellowship at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver.
Dr. Gropler is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in general pediatrics and in pediatric cardiology. She serves on committees with the Fetal Heart Society and the American Heart Association and is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Society of Echocardiography and the Society of Pediatric Echocardiography.
In addition to her clinical interests, Dr. Gropler is committed to research that improves patient outcomes. In 2020, Dr. Gropler won the American Heart Association's Young Hearts Early Career Investigator Award. Additionally, she has published peer-reviewed research in the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography and presented at meetings and conferences including the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions Annual Conference, the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation Annual Meeting, as well as the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Annual Meeting.
Dr. Gropler knew from a young age that she wanted to be a physician. She loves working with children and is honored to care for children and their families. She understands the difficulty in having a child diagnosed with a heart condition, and she provides support for her patients during pregnancy, birth and beyond. Her hope is that every parent feels they are a part of the team caring for their child, and she considers it a privilege to be on that journey with them.
Outside the hospital, Dr. Gropler spends time with her husband and three children. Together they go on adventures, try new restaurants, travel and work on their homemade pizza recipe.
