About Paula M. Prieto-Jimenez, MD

Paula Prieto Jimenez, MD, is a pediatric gastroenterologist at Phoenix Children's. She provides specialized care and treatment for conditions that affect the gastrointestinal (GI) tract of children and adolescents. Dr. Jimenez has a clinical interest in nutrition and the management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Dr. Jimenez earned her medical degree from the Fundacion Universitaria de Ciencias de la Salud in Bogota, Colombia. After finishing her pediatrics residency training at Nicklaus Children's Hospital in Miami, she completed a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and a fellowship in IBD at Cedars-Sinai, both in Los Angeles.

Board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in both general pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology, Dr. Jimenez is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the North American Society For Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition (NASPGHAN), where she serves as an IBD Committee member. Her peer-reviewed research has been published in medical journals and publications including the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology & Nutrition and the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology & Nutrition Reports.

The foundation of Dr. Jimenez' patient care philosophy is that small changes in a child's life can put them on the right path to a healthier future. She strives to help, advocate and ensure that her patients and their families feel heard. Dr. Jimenez is dedicated to using her leadership and clinical knowledge every day to become a better human and a better pediatric gastroenterologist.

Dr. Jimenez was inspired to become a gastroenterologist by her grandmother, who passed away from complications due to undiagnosed hepatitis C. As a result of her experience caring for a terminally ill family member, she is a more patient, compassionate and empathetic doctor. Dr. Jimenez recognizes that many people encounter barriers to care because of their financial status or lack of access to healthcare services.

In her free time, Dr. Jimenez enjoys running, cooking, traveling, hiking and spending time with her dogs.
