Physician assistant Stefanie Laystrom, PA-C, grew up in the Chicago suburbs, but she loves the mountains and sunshine of Arizona. A love for children fuels her passion for her work.
Stefanie received her bachelor's degree in sports medicine from Central Michigan University and worked as a certified athletic trainer at Central High in Phoenix for several years. She graduated with a Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois.
When she had an opportunity to return to Arizona and work at Phoenix Children's Mesa Pediatrics, she jumped at the chance. She values Phoenix Children's national and local reputation and the resources it offers.
"Kids are the best! They're smart and hilarious," Stefanie says. "It's so gratifying to help them feel better."
At home, Stefanie acts as chaos coordinator of three children, two silly dogs and a cat. When she has time to herself, Stefanie loves running mountain trails.

Stephanie Laystrom is the first pediatric provider I have ever fully trusted and felt heard by in all my years as a mother and I have 4 kids, the oldest being 21. Stephanie, is knowledgeable, detail oriented and Highly professional. While she is well beyond my scope of practice, she still listens intently for understanding and she validates my concerns as well as my children. She never makes me feel like I'm asking a stupid question and she is so good at putting my children at ease. She is wonderful at her craft. You can always tell when someone is passionate about their work but, you can also tell when someone is passionate about their work and the people who benefit from it. Some providers love just the job; the science, the diagnostics, finding solutions and solving the hidden issues however, for some it ends there and you can tell when it does. You can tell when someone looks at your child not like a child but, as just another problem to be diagnosed and solved. Stephanie is not the latter. She cares and it shows no matter how great she is at maintaining such a high level of professionalism, it manages to always be there. Other providers would be so lucky if they could just snag a page from her book.
After we left my son's appointment, I commented to my husband about what a wonderful experience we had at your hospital! From the moment we walled in, the volunteers were helpful and positive, all of the staff were wonderful, we were seen on time, and we were able to knock out some additional tests that were recommended after the initial exam'_ And all in a very timely manner! 10 out of 10 recommend!

Thanks for being so patient and accomodating and making the experience pleasant for our son. We really appreciate when you let our son look and feel the stethoscope and ear scope first, it seemed effective and it made him more cooperative and less stressed.
Stephanie is amazing. Both of my kids love her and she answered all of my endless questions without judgement. It's hard to find a provider you are comfortable asking tough questions to and she is always willing to have conversations. Highly recommend her to everyone. 10/10
I really appreciate this doctor. Might be my favorite doctor that I've experienced. I like that she listens, but also is unafraid to point out things that we're mentioning that are not relevant. And I feel like she gets to the bottom of the issue sometimes in spite of the mediocre feedback or less than entirely relevant feedback or information I have to provide. So I feel like she gets to the bottom of it and figures it out. And I really appreciate that because, you know, being friendly, sure, she is. More importantly, she gets to the point and I feel like we figured out what's going on when we see her. And I appreciate that.

Overall great visit. I never know what to expect since my daughter is non verbal and on the spectrum, but the provider was great with her!

Stephanie is great. She listens and she answers the questions. She's very good with the kids and she's respectful and I will definitely recommend her to any family.
She was great and offered to do a swab test on my daughter and we've been there twice the last month and neither provider did that. She also took my concerns seriously and made an order for xrays and we immediately went downstairs and got them done and she followed up with me later that evening on a holiday weekend, I really appreciated her and everything we got accomplished

Stefanie Is great! She takes time to evaluate and listens so well to our child's needs. Plus she (miraculously) seems to really remember our child's specific history. Or takes really good notes, but either way it's very beneficial. We seek out Stephanie when we have same day sick needs!

Stephanie Lestrom is my child's pediatrician, and she is absolutely wonderful, amazing. And I'm just thrilled to have her as our provider, and love that she is the provider for both of my children. And we'll keep her as long as I can, and also all of the ladies who work there and the nurses who do the shots and everything. I have never had a problem, an issue. Stefanie was great! Took time with my child and made her feel as comfortable as possible at 20 months old! Allowed me to explain what was happening without feeling rushed and then responded accurately. She provided clear explanation why we were moving forward with the route we were. She isn't our usually provider but if ours ever retired we would absolutely switch! Thank you PCP team
