About Steven P. Beck, MD
Steven Paul Beck, MD, is a pediatric anesthesiologist with Phoenix Children's who has a special interest in regional anesthesia and postoperative pain management. He's also interested in presurgical management of complex neuromuscular patients as well as those with behavioral disorders, such as autism. In addition, Dr. Beck serves as anesthesiology specialty lead for orthopedics and spine surgery.
While training at Phoenix Children's during his anesthesiology residency, Dr. Beck discovered his passion for treating children and adolescents. He enjoyed working with the same trusted group of anesthesiologists who helped train him and who shared his dedication for providing children with outstanding care.
Dr. Beck earned his medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine in Missouri. He then completed an anesthesiology residency at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center in Arizona, followed by a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at the Seattle Children's Hospital in Washington. Dr. Beck is also a proud military veteran, having served for several years as an active-duty USAF Flight Surgeon in the U.S., Germany, and Middle East during the first Gulf War.
He is board-certified through the American Board of Anesthesiology. Dr. Beck is affiliated with several professional organizations, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Arizona Society of Anesthesiologists, Society of Pediatric Anesthesiologists, Arizona Medical Society, Maricopa County Medical Society and the Scoliosis Research Society.
Dr. Beck is committed to furthering his field through medical education. He serves as a clinical instructor of pediatric anesthesiology for the University of Arizona, the Mayo Clinic and Phoenix Children's Hospital. He also presented on "Anesthesia for Pediatric Scoliosis Surgery" at the 2020 Scoliosis Research Society Annual Meeting.
Dr. Beck became interested in medicine as a child and aimed to become a veterinarian. However, after working in a vet clinic, he realized something was missing. That's when he chose to work with children. He finds great satisfaction in helping kids and enjoys being able to act a little bit silly at work to make them laugh. He also uses his experience as a parent to form his care philosophy. He understands the immeasurable love parents have for their children and commits to caring for each patient exactly as he would care for his own children.
Outside of his practice, Dr. Beck enjoys spending time with his family, completing household and automotive projects, riding motorcycles, camping, and fishing. He also cares for his elderly parents.
