Steven R. Henglefelt, MD, is an anesthesiologist specializing in care for newborns through young adults.

Working at Phoenix Children's has always been Dr. Henglefelt's dream job. A Phoenix native, his first experience at the hospital was during college when he worked as a summer intern in the trauma department. Dr. Henglefelt was thrilled to return home to be part of a great program built by an incredible team of anesthesiologists, surgeons and staff.

Growing up in a family of pharmacists, Dr. Henglefelt developed an early interest in health and medicine. His family background and a passion for physiology led him to pursue anesthesiology. After earning his medical degree at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, Arizona, Dr. Henglefelt went on to complete an anesthesiology residency there. He also completed a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Children's Hospital Los Angeles in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Henglefelt is certified in anesthesiology and pediatric anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Henglefelt contributes to furthering his field through presentations at professional meetings and conferences. He also enjoys teaching residents and medical students interested in anesthesia.

Knowing how anxious surgery makes children and their families feel, Dr. Henglefelt provides compassionate and skilled care to ease their stress.

When he's not working, Dr. Henglefelt enjoys spending time with his wife, three dogs and nieces and nephews. He also enjoys hiking, tennis, bowling and watching Arizona professional sports teams.
