About Vishal Gunnala, MD

Vishal Gunnala, MD, is sepsis medical director and a pediatric intensive care physician at Phoenix Children's. Dr. Gunnala has specialized training and experience providing critical care treatments for sepsis, as well as both general and cardiac conditions in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and the cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU).

Dr. Gunnala earned his undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis before graduating with his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed his residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at Loyola University School of Medicine and Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Gunnala trained as a fellow in pediatric critical care at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago.

Dr. Gunnala is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in pediatric critical care medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Medical Association.

Committed to improving outcomes for children with sepsis, Dr. Gunnala has published research in peer-reviewed journals including Pediatrics and the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).

A Phoenix native, Dr. Gunnala enjoys spending his free time with his family traveling and playing sports.
