Pediatric Radiology Fellowship

Fellowship Programs

Our Pediatric Radiology Fellowship is the first and only pediatric program in Arizona. The fellowship is based at Phoenix Children's, the only licensed freestanding children's hospital in Arizona.

The hospital has an ACGME accreditation for a Pediatric Radiology Fellowship which began in 2010. There are three accredited positions with two additional non-accredited, subspecialized pediatric radiology fellowships available in the Pediatric Interventional Radiology Fellowship and Pediatric Neuroradiology Fellowship. The formal education program will consist of clinical rotations, didactic lectures, case-based and interdisciplinary conferences.

Our radiology team has grown to three times its size since 2007 to accommodate the growth in volume and complexity of procedures. The department performs all aspects of diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology. The body imaging section consists of faculty members with special interest in musculoskeletal, molecular and cardiac imaging. Neuroradiology is growing rapidly in both volume and complexity and has a focus in advanced MR techniques and neuro PET/CT. The division of Interventional Radiology has three faculty members who perform all vascular and non-vascular procedures. Our faculty is one of the most experienced in North America.

Our fellowship curriculum includes exposure to large clinical volume with a diverse mix of common and uncommon pediatric disease. There are daily one-on-one read outs at the PACS station, didactic lectures, radiology departmental and multidisciplinary conferences, case-based reviews, interesting case conference and Journal Club. The fellowship provides hands-on teaching in ultrasound and fluoroscopy and a large portion of the training works on developing cross sectional body imaging skills. Additionally, there are opportunities to teach medical students, residents and fellows in/outside of the department.

We have established a Luminary site and Research agreements with Philips Medical Systems. Therefore all technology in the department is Philips, including:

  • 3T MRI
  • CT — Brilliance iCT 256 slice and Brilliance 64-slice
  • NM — Brightview SPECT x 2
  • RAD — Digital Diagnost DVM and Easy Diagnost Eleva DRF x4
  • PET/CT — Gemini TF

In addition to the hospital, the radiology department is currently servicing three satellite facilities with additional facilities planned in the future. We also have added a Center for Pediatric Interventional Radiology, the only one of its kind for children in the Southwest. The center provides state-of-the art, minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to kids of all ages, including newborns.

All of our fellowship positions — three accredited Pediatric Radiology Fellowship positions and two non-accredited subspecialized positions — are available outside the match.
