Alyssa Runco, MD, is an attending child neurologist and faculty member in child neurology at Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children’s, specializing in pediatric neurocritical care. She provides expert care for critically ill pediatric and adolescent patients with neurological conditions, with clinical interests in neurocritical care, neurogenetic disorders and neuroinflammatory conditions affecting children in the intensive care setting.
Dr. Runco earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine and completed her child neurology residency at Baylor College of Medicine. She then completed a pediatric neurocritical care fellowship at Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children’s, graduating in June 2025 from the nationally recognized fellowship program focused on the care of children and adolescents with complex neurological conditions. Upon completion of her fellowship training, Dr. Runco joined the faculty at Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children’s as an attending physician in Child Neurology.
She holds bachelor’s degrees from Texas A&M University. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Runco has contributed to pediatric neurology research, including co-authoring work focused on ATP1A2 and ATP1A3 gene mutations, which she has presented at the American Academy of Neurology Annual Meeting.
Dr. Runco is committed to advancing the care of children with critical neurological illnesses through evidence-based practice, education and innovation in pediatric neuroscience.
