About this presenter:

Ashish Kumar, MD, PhD
Professor of Pediatrics
Co-director, Histiocytosis Center
Cincinnati Children's

Dr. Ashish Kumar is a physician-scientist in the division of Bone marrow transplant and Immune Deficiency at the Cancer and Blood Disease Institute at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC), and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. At CCHMC, he is the director of the multi-disciplinary Histiocytosis Center. Before joining CCHMC in 2009, Dr. Kumar worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School.

Dr. Kumar’s current focus is on Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). Based on research and experience, he has completely changed the approach to treatment for diseases like Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH), where he doesn't use chemotherapy at all. Instead, novel oral inhibitors have revolutionized the outcomes for patients with this condition. He also has a different way of diagnosing patients with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), which has resulted in improved outcomes.

In his free time, he enjoys traveling, hiking and cooking. He loves music, although the only instrument he can play is the air guitar.
