At the end of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize that normalization of growth is a marker of disease control and successful therapy for patients with Crohn’s disease (CD)
  • Explain how to interpret growth in the context of bone age
  • Discuss the potential underlying mechanisms leading to sex differences in growth impairment in children and adolescents with CD and the clinical importance of developing a sex-specific, risk-based treatment approach for pediatric CD

Dr. Neera Gupta is the Founder and Director of the newly launched Children’s National Hospital Growth Program for IBD. She will lead the expansion of the Growth Program for IBD to the Growth Program for Chronic Inflammatory Diseases over the next five years. She is the Principal Investigator for Part 1 & Part 2 of the prospective multicenter longitudinal Growth Study, funded by the NIH (Part 1: R01 Award; Part 2: R01 Award) and Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation (Part 1: Senior Research Award; Part 2: Litwin IBD Pioneers Award). She is the Director of Research for the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition at Children’s National Hospital. She is the Founder & Director of the nationally and internationally recognized Pediatric IBD Research Days Meeting—celebrating the 10th PIBDRD meeting in 2026.
