About the presenter:
Derek Neilson, MD

Dr. Neilson has been Division Chief of Genetics and Metabolism for 7 years. Dr. Neilson attended medical school at Oregon Health Sciences University. After that, he completed a combined pediatrics and genetics residency at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, OH. Following that, Dr. Neilson was faculty at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital for nearly 10 years.
Dr. Neilson has had gene discovery research programs for acute necrotizing encephalopathy, neurologic disorders, and also hypermobility and connective tissue disorders. Dr. Neilson has developed a genetics residency program at Phoenix Children’s with the hope of expanding genetics resources throughout the state of Arizona.
