Program Description
We accept two fellows per year into our three-year academic program.
The Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship offers a structured curriculum with extensive education in perinatal physiology, clinical neonatology and research methods. Each trainee also completes a mentored research project under the guidance of experienced faculty.
Our fellowship works in close coordination with the Phoenix Children's Pediatric Residency and other subspecialty fellowships. There are many opportunities to interact with, teach and mentor fellow trainees. In addition, fellows can access extensive resources at Phoenix Children's to maximize and enrich their education and research experiences.
Upon successful completion of the program, qualified fellows are eligible to seek certification from the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) Sub-board of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.
Program Goals
- To educate and train future neonatologists with a curriculum that offers a broad spectrum of complex and diverse pathology across multiple settings. This curriculum includes core teaching of the quality improvement process to help sustain healthcare systems within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
- Offer future neonatologists opportunities to participate in national collaboratives and trials. These experiences support relationships that enable collaboration for future research and development of new therapies.
- Prepare neonatologists to participate in the national community, learn advocacy skills and identify children’s needs at the local, national and international level.
- Enhance our division’s ability to maintain and grow neonatal providers to support our local and national communities.
- Build awareness around the importance of physician self-care and resiliency, including its impact on professional fulfillment and longevity.
