The mission of the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Training Program at the Phoenix Children's Hospital Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) is to train pediatric hematologist/oncologists who provide hope, healing, and the best family-centered care, and who incorporate innovative research, advance medical education and advocate for children. The Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders and the Bone Marrow Transplant Program, in coordination with Mayo Clinic Arizona, is a center of excellence and is honored annually by US News and World Report as a Best Children’s Hospital. Phoenix Children’s Hospital is one of the top ten largest Children’s Hospitals in the United States, and the CCBD is the largest pediatric cancer program in Arizona with greater than 350 new oncology patients diagnosed per year. The center is a long-standing member of the Children's Oncology Group (COG) and currently has more than 100 clinical trials available for patients with leukemias, lymphomas, solid tumors, brain tumors, multiple rare cancers, and cancer-like disorders. We have a robust hematology program, covering the spectrum of benign hematologic disorders, sickle cell disease, hemostasis, and thrombosis. Our bone marrow transplant program has one of the lowest mortality rates in the nation. We are a multidisciplinary group with dedicated nurse specialists, nurse practitioners, inpatient hospitalists, social workers, nutritionists, psychologists, and child life specialists.

The fellowship program is ACGME-accredited and accepts 3 fellows/year. Clinical training includes inpatient and outpatient oncology, bone marrow transplant, laboratory medicine, hematology, radiation oncology, cytogenetics, palliative care, and neuro-oncology. Multidisciplinary clinics available include oncology survivor, sickle cell, thalassemia, hemophilia, menorrhagia, immunohematology, neuro-onc survivor, BMT long term, GVHD, and vascular malformations clinics. Intramural opportunities include hematopathology rounds, pediatric resident teaching, hematology conference, leukemia, and solid tumor board, neuro-oncology tumor board, fellowship academic conference, board review, quality day, and academic excellence day. Research affiliates are the University Of Arizona College Of Medicine-Phoenix, TGen, Mayo Clinic Arizona, and Arizona State University. We offer clinical instructor positions at the University Of Arizona College Of Medicine-Phoenix, as well as a Master’s of Clinical Research program to interested fellows.
