Dr. Wassim Ballan, MD, is the esteemed Program Director for the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program and Division Chief for the Pediatric Infectious Disease Department at Phoenix Children's. He is multilingual, fluent in English, Arabic, French, and Spanish. Dr. Ballan's extensive education began at the American University of Beirut and continued through prestigious institutions like the State University of New York and the University of California, San Francisco. His academic titles include B.S. in Biology and M.D. in Medicine, with specialized training in Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Diseases. His career highlights include roles as a Pediatric Hospitalist & Pediatric Infectious Diseases consultant, medical director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, and Associate Medical Director for Infection Prevention and Control at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Dr. Ballan is licensed by the Lebanese Order of Physicians, Medical Board of California, and Arizona Medical Board. His commitment to teaching and public service is demonstrated through numerous awards, presentations, and volunteer work.
Scott Ostdiek, MD

Dr. Scott Ostdiek, MD, serves as the Associate Program Director and Core Faculty for the Pediatric Infectious Disease Fellowship Program at Phoenix Children's. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at Phoenix Children’s Hospital/Maricopa Medical Center and pursued a Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship at St. Louis Children’s Hospital/Washington University. Currently, he holds the position of Section Chief of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Phoenix Children’s. His professional journey includes roles as Medical Director of the Infection Prevention Program and extensive involvement in teaching and guiding medical students, residents, and fellows. Dr. Ostdiek’ s commitment to healthcare is reflected in his active participation in various committees and his contributions to the field through publications and invited presentations.
