Mission Statement
The mission of the Phoenix Children’s Hospital Pulmonology fellowship is to train fellows to become exceptional pediatric pulmonologists who combine clinical excellence, scientific curiosity, and compassionate care for children with respiratory disorders. The fellows will continue to advance the field of Pediatric Pulmonology, enhance the performance of the hospital and health care system, generate new knowledge for the field through research and innovation, and develop skills to educate other health care providers. The program emphasizes evidence-based practice, multidisciplinary collaboration, along with leadership development and intends to prepare fellows to become future leaders in the field of Pediatric Pulmonology.
Program Description and Goals
The Pediatric Pulmonology Fellowship is a clinically rich, education and fellow-training focused program. It is currently an intensive three-year ACGME-accredited program with plans to condense to a two-year clinical track with an optional third year for pursuit of scholarly activity, in accordance with the recent ACGME announcements.
As program leaders, we understand the importance of training fellows to become board-certified pediatric pulmonologists with the procedural and clinical skills, knowledge, and expertise to become leaders in clinical, quality, research, and educational care of patients with pulmonary diseases. Our fellows will receive exceptional training in a clinically rich, supportive, and educational environment that stresses innovation, personal wellness, and a commitment to excellence.
We aim to:
- Provide our fellows with the educational resources, clinical experience, research experience, support and mentorship they need to be their best within the diverse field of pulmonology.
- Prepare our fellows in acquiring comprehensive skills in the evaluation, management and procedural interventions related to pulmonary disorders.
- Inspire and prepare our fellows for future careers as leaders in clinical medicine, research and academic medicine as it relates to the field of pulmonology.
- Emphasize and teach our fellows strategies for maintaining wellness and personal effectiveness, so they can go on to become role models of self-care and wellness while promoting the well-being of the patients they serve.
