To promote a safe environment, all offers of employment at Phoenix Children’s requires successful completion of a standard background check, an acceptable drug screen, and immunizations as part of the new hire onboarding.  A positive result on a pre-employment drug and alcohol test that is not explained to Phoenix Children’s satisfaction will result in Phoenix Children’s withdrawing its conditional offer of employment.

Criminal or other concerning history identified in a background check will be reviewed by the Training Committee, the Graduate Medical Education Committee and, if applicable, Phoenix Children's Compliance, on a case-by-case basis to determine if there are mitigating factors that warrant proceeding with the onboarding process. Phoenix Children's follows all applicable federal and state laws, including the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) in conducting any background screening.

Trainee Recruitment / Interviews

Moving forward, the program is in agreement with APPIC’s encouragement to consider factors such as individuality and the imbalance within systems and mitigation of bias in making decisions regarding the use of virtual interviews in recruitment. These decisions will be made by the Training committee and included in our public materials.
