The new Vice President of Research secured a number of resources to aid in resident/fellow research including scientific writers, access to grants, improved throughput of data requests, streamlined IRB process and a research progress dashboard. We have continued to offer a Learner Research Fund, consisting of dedicated money (up to $15,000) for learner research projects. A bi-monthly research newsletter highlights ongoing projects, exemplary researchers, and improvements to the research processes. Medical Education has a research specialist dedicated to our residents and fellows to aid in project design, IRB processes, basic statistics, manuscript, and poster preparation.
Every resident participates in at least one quality improvement project through their continuity clinic and about one-third to one-half of our residents participate in clinical research projects. We have the following resources in place to support resident research:
- Medical education research analyst
- Medical librarians
- Biostatistician services free for trainees
- Resident research grants
- Funding to attend and present research at conferences
- Residency Scholarship Oversight Committee: a forum for oversight, mentorship, resources and tracking for residents participating in clinical research, quality improvement or other scholarly endeavors.
