Our Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) residency program is a 12-month ASHP-accredited program that builds upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete out PGY1 residency program will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.

During the residency year, you’ll:

  • Actively participate in daily patient care rounds, therapeutic drug monitoring and provision of drug information to the medical team.
  • Perform direct and indirect patient care activities through various programs, including medication therapy management (MTM), quality improvement interventions and drug utilization review.
  • Present medication monographs and medical utilization evaluations (MUE) results to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) committee. 
  • Complete a residency research project suitable for publication and present results at the Pediatric Pharmacy Association (PPA) Annual Meeting.
  • Staff in the inpatient pharmacy every third weekend and one evening every other week.
  • Gain exposure in various teaching and precepting experiences and earn a teaching certificate.

To successfully complete the program, the resident must achieve:

  • 28 out of 31 (90%) of the required ASHP PGY1 residency program goals and objectives
  • All R1 objectives must be assessed as achieved for the residency
  • The remaining 3 objectives (10%) must be assessed at a minimum of satisfactory progress
