The Pediatric Nurse Residency Program is an 18-month, comprehensive transition-to-practice program designed to support new graduate nurses as they begin their careers in pediatric nursing. This program is tailored for nurses entering inpatient acute care, critical care, and the emergency department.

Key components of the program include:

  • Precepted Clinical Experience: Each nurse is assigned a Residency Instructor who provides mentorship, guidance, and advocacy throughout the program. This dedicated support helps ease the transition from student to confident, independent practitioner.
  • Didactic Education & Skills Labs: Monthly classes and hands-on labs offer in-depth learning on pediatric body systems, clinical scenarios, and evidence-based practices. Sessions are led by clinical educators and experienced bedside nurses to bridge theory with real-world application.
  • Department-Specific Education: Nurses receive targeted education tailored to the unique patient populations and clinical needs of their assigned units. This ensures they are well-prepared to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care in their specific practice environments.
  • Cohort-Based Community: Nurses begin the program in cohorts, fostering a sense of community and peer support. Cohort members attend classes and labs together, building lasting professional relationships and a strong support network.

Requirements to Apply Online

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for a new graduate Clinical Nurse position at Phoenix Children’s, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program
  • Successful completion of the NCLEX or a scheduled test date
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association, or the ability to obtain it before the start date
