Pediatric Drowning Prevention Program

Phoenix Children's Care Network (PCCN)

As a pediatric physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner, you’re a significant source of drowning prevention guidance to caregivers in outpatient clinical settings.

Drownings are the leading cause of injury-related death in children ages 1 to 4 years old in the United States. In Arizona, children in the same age group are drowning at nearly double the national average.

Yet providers often have limited time to engage caregivers in drowning prevention counseling. This highlights the need for drowning prevention education and programs that take your busy schedule into account.

Your practice is eligible to join a study to decrease pediatric drowning risk

To assist you in your efforts, your practice is eligible to join a quality improvement study to measure and improve providers’ drowning prevention efforts, knowledge and resource-sharing during well-child visits. Phoenix Children’s Care Network and Phoenix Children’s practices are eligible to earn Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Part IV credits for participating. This study is conducted in partnership with:

  • Phoenix Children’s
  • Phoenix Children’s Care Network (PCCN)
  • Salt River Project (SRP)
  • Arizona State University

The program is endorsed by the Michael Phelps Foundation.

Our team will offer efficient, detailed support during your monthly meetings, and you’ll receive a quality improvement toolkit to make it easy to track your progress.

How Arizonians benefit

Phoenix Children’s drowning prevention program is a leader in Arizona for bringing the best and latest resources to providers. Surveys show a dramatic difference between pre-curriculum and post-curriculum delivery of drowning prevention education during well-child visits for children ages 1 to 4.
