And, these deaths are most likely to happen between now and Labor Day weekend. As Arizonans continue to abide by COVID 19 social distancing restrictions, drowning risk for Arizona’s children is expected to rise. Toddlers in Arizona are already drowning at double the national rate. Economic hardship is also increasing caregiver stress, childcare options are severely limited, and families are confined to apartments and single-family homes, where drowning risk is highest.
