The new space, which replaces Phoenix Children’s existing NICU, is Arizona's only Level IV NICU as designated by the American Academy of Pediatrics, indicating the highest level of care available for the most complex neonatal conditions. In addition to providing high-quality medical care, the new space was designed to enhance patient family comfort.

Neonatology at Phoenix Children’s, ranked among the nation’s top programs by U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Children’s Hospitals,” announced today that Gregory Martin, MD, FAAP, will serve as Division Chief of Neonatology for Phoenix Children’s Hospital East Valley.

The Valley Toyota Dealers Association (TDA) announced today that they will match up to $250,000 toward the new Emergency Department and Trauma Center at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. As the Phoenix Children's Hospital Foundation nears its goal of raising $40 million to fund the new facility, the TDA plays a major role in raising the last $500,000 needed to achieve that target. Together, the TDA and Phoenix Children’s are asking the community to help raise the remaining funds of $250,000.

On the heels of its top “three-star” rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, a repeat “Best Children’s Hospital” designation, and its ranking among the nation’s top Pediatric Heart Centers from U.S. News & World Report, Phoenix Children’s will open a newly expanded Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) in July 2019. With 48 total inpatient beds, the new CVICU doubles the capacity of the previous 24-bed unit. New CVICU rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art technology like surgical lighting, lifts for mobilizing adult patients and improved monitoring capabilities.

Highlighting efforts in patient safety and quality, Phoenix Children’s Hospital received a Five Star Patient Care “Vigi Award” from VigiLanz, a provider of SaaS clinical surveillance solutions. The award recognizes a new quality improvement solution Phoenix Children’s implemented with VigiLanz technology. Phoenix Children’s Infection Control team is now able to monitor patients’ blood draw contamination information in real-time.

When it opens in 2024, it will continue to be Arizona’s only American Academy of Pediatrics-designated Level IV NICU, a designation indicating the highest level of medical care available for the most complex neonatal conditions, the sickest and the most premature newborns.
