Phoenix Children’s has partnered with the Phoenix Fire Department to host the fourth EMS | MVP Pediatric Symposium, a training to ensure first responders in Arizona have the up-to-date education they need to respond to pediatric emergencies, which often require a very different response than adult emergency calls.

Phoenix Children’s is recently acknowledged with three top-employer awards, proving dedication to employee satisfaction. Phoenix Children’s Sports Medicine program is opening sports physical therapy facilities specifically aimed at patients’ ages four to 30. The program will open two clinics in the Valley this fall, in Gilbert and North Phoenix, which will be the first Arizona sports physical therapy clinics designed for pediatric and young adult populations. The facilities will offer everything from return-to-sports readiness care, to cupping and dry needling.

As Arizonans continue to abide by COVID 19 social distancing restrictions, drowning risk for Arizona’s children is expected to rise. Toddlers in Arizona are already drowning at double the national rate. Economic hardship is also increasing caregiver stress, childcare options are severely limited, and families are confined to apartments and single-family homes, where drowning risk is highest.

On the heels of its top “three-star” rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, a repeat “Best Children’s Hospital” designation, and its ranking among the nation’s top Pediatric Heart Centers from U.S. News & World Report, Phoenix Children’s will open a newly expanded Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) in July 2019. With 48 total inpatient beds, the new CVICU doubles the capacity of the previous 24-bed unit. New CVICU rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art technology like surgical lighting, lifts for mobilizing adult patients and improved monitoring capabilities.

Phoenix Children’s has appointed four new division chiefs to lead vital areas of care in pathology and laboratory medicine, developmental pediatrics, allergy and immunology, and palliative medicine.
