Down Syndrome Clinic
Down syndrome, caused by an extra copy of chromosome 21 (Trisomy 21), affects approximately 1 in 700 babies born in the United States, with about 160 babies born with Down syndrome each year in Arizona alone.
Children with Down syndrome often have associated medical comorbidities, including congenital heart defects, respiratory and sleep disorders, hearing problems, blood-related abnormalities and thyroid conditions. They also commonly experience developmental challenges, including intellectual disabilities, global developmental delays, ADHD and autism spectrum disorders.
Our developmental and behavioral providers have expertise in caring for children with Down syndrome, including some of the specific comorbidities such as developmental delay and autism spectrum disorder. We collaborate closely with specialists throughout Phoenix Children’s to provide comprehensive care tailored to your child's specific medical needs.
