The Cardiac High Acuity Monitoring Program for Infants and Newborns (CHAMPION) Program at Phoenix Children’s is a monitoring program for patients with certain types of high-risk complex congenital heart disease and single ventricle physiology, or one chamber in the heart.
The period between a first and second surgery is called the interstage. It’s a time when the risk of complications is higher. Interstage monitoring programs, like the CHAMPION Program, are designed to improve the outcomes for children who are born with a single ventricle.
Your Care Team Partners
This program creates a partnership between the care team and families by providing support for their infant through daily home monitoring and frequent contact with our team, including:
- Doctors
- Nurse Practitioners
- Dietitians
- Therapists – Speech, Occupational and Physical
- Social Workers
Before taking your baby home from the hospital, our team will teach you everything you will need to know to safely care for your baby. A member of the CHAMPION team is available for families 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Collaboration
The CHAMPION Program is part of the National Pediatric Cardiology Quality Improvement Collaborative (NPC-QIC). Being part of this group allows us to share information and resources with other hospitals. This enables us to provide the highest level of care for children with single ventricles, and their families.
