When your child has a problem affecting the liver, you want answers and a plan for taking action. By choosing Phoenix Children’s, your child will be in the qualified hands of highly trained hepatologists, who are experts in liver diseases. We’ll answer all your questions and put a solid care plan in place.

Our Hepatology program is the only one of its kind in a freestanding children’s hospital in Arizona. Our pediatric gastroenterologists have advanced training in hepatology to treat patients with acute or chronic liver conditions from infancy to adulthood. We offer a full range of treatments and services, some that aren’t offered anywhere else in the state.

Why Choose Phoenix Children’s?

When a child is treated at Phoenix Children’s, they often have a better experience and better outcome than if treated at an adult facility. Our staff is specially trained to meet the unique needs of growing children. And our program provides the full spectrum of specialized care needed by patients with liver disease.

Our pediatric hepatologists offer well-rounded, family-centered care. Our Hepatology team can coordinate services for your family in these areas:

  • Child Life
  • Education
  • Psychology
  • Social work
  • Other supportive programs

Our kid-friendly hospital campus has a bright, uplifting environment with private patient rooms, family gathering areas, playrooms, food service options, a rooftop garden, playground and more.

What to Expect

As a parent or caregiver, you’re a key member of your child’s care team. Working together, we’ll ensure your child receives the best care possible.

After your first visit with us, you’ll have good understanding of how our Hepatology program can help your child. During the first appointment, expect these steps:

  • A physical exam to check vitals like height and weight
  • Full medical history
  • Meeting with a hepatologist
  • Bloodwork and/or imaging
  • Discussion about how to best proceed

If your child needs imaging, such as an ultrasound, it may or may not happen during this first visit. If your child needs a medical procedure, it will be scheduled for your next visit.
