Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program
The inflammatory bowel disease team at Phoenix Children’s provides expert diagnosis and care for children with all types of IBD, including:
- Crohn’s disease: This condition can occur anywhere in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It is most common at the end of the small intestine, where it joins the beginning of the large intestine (colon). Inflammation may result throughout the entire thickness of the bowel wall.
- Ulcerative colitis: This disease affects the large intestine and rectum in the GI tract. Inflammation occurs only in the innermost layer of the intestinal lining.
- Very-early onset IBD: This term describes IBD diagnosed before age 6 and requires further assessment. Members of our IBD team may collaborate with other specialties – such as immunology – to provide specialized evaluation and IBD treatments for your child.
- Indeterminate colitis: This term is used when a child has IBD, but it’s unclear whether their IBD is Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.
No matter what GI condition your child faces, rest assured the pediatric gastroenterologists at Phoenix Children’s have the training and experience needed to provide high-quality care for your child, and ongoing support for your family.
