Interventional Cardiology Program

Today, many common and complex heart conditions can be treated through cardiac catheterization. This exciting and ever-evolving therapy offers a minimally invasive approach to diagnosing and treating cardiac conditions, without traditional surgery.

Your child’s care team will collaborate with our interventional cardiologists to determine if this therapy is the best approach for your child. Sometimes, a cardiac catheterization may be needed to gain a clear picture of your child’s condition and best path forward.

Interventional cardiologists offer specialized procedures to examine and repair many types of congenital or acquired cardiovascular conditions that may have been diagnosed in your child, including:

Narrowed heart valves

A hole between the upper heart chambers

Disease affecting the heart muscle

Narrowing of the aorta, the large artery that carries oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the rest of the body

Narrowing of a previously placed valve requiring replacement

An extra blood vessel that can lead to too much blood flow to the lungs

Narrowing of vessels which supply blood to the lungs

Defects that result in a heart with a single pumping chamber (that is, hypoplastic left heart syndrome, tricuspid atresia)
