Pain Medicine
As one of the nation’s most comprehensive pediatric pain management programs, our Pain Medicine team at Phoenix Children’s treats a wide variety of acute and chronic pain conditions in children of all ages.
Acute Pain
Acute pain usually goes away in less than three months, such as the time it takes to heal wounds or injuries. We treat acute pain related to these and other conditions:
- Acute pain issues that can also occur along with any type of chronic pain
- Cancer-related pain
- Severe or advanced-stage illness
- Painful complications of sickle cell disease
- Sports injuries
- Surgical wounds and conditions related to surgery
- Traumatic injury or other trauma to the bone, joints and tissues

- Chest wall pain, including but not limited to slipping rib syndrome
- Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS)
- Epidermolysis bullosa, erythromelalgia and other painful skin conditions
- Fibromyalgia
- Headaches and migraines
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Joint conditions, including hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) and hypermobility syndrome
