Perinatal Palliative Care

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, birth defects affect one in every 33 babies born in the U.S. each year. Birth defects are critical conditions that can cause life-long or life-limiting challenges.

Some birth defects can be detected before birth while others are found within the first year of life. No matter when parents learn that their baby has a medical complication, our Perinatal Palliative Care team is here to offer compassionate guidance and support.

The most common types of medical conditions that our team helps families navigate include:

Such as Trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome), Trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome) and Triploidy.

Such as single ventricle defect, acardia, inoperable heart anomalies and Pentalogy of Cantrell (ectopia cordis).

Such as oligohydramnios syndrome (Potter syndrome), renal agenesis and bilateral polycystic kidney disease.

Such as anencephaly, hydranencephaly, acrania, alobar holoprosencephaly, spina bifida and meningomyelocele, large encephalocele and hydrocephalus.

Such as thanatophoric dysplasia (types 1 and 2) and severe osteogenesis imperfecta.

We also provide support for patients who may suffer from multiple congenital anomalies, hydrops fetalis (fetal hydrops) and congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) with pulmonary hypoplasia.
