Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R)
The Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) team at Phoenix Children’s cares for children with conditions that can affect many aspects of life, such as their ability to walk, talk and learn.
Some of the conditions frequently treated include:
- Cerebral palsy
- Disabilities due to cancer or cancer treatment
- Gait abnormalities
- Limb deficiency/amputations
- Musculoskeletal disorders
- Neuromuscular disorders
- Spinal muscular atrophy
- Duchenne muscular dystrophy
- Acquired neurologic conditions such as transverse myelitis and Guillain-Barré
- Orthotic/bracing needs from variety of medical and surgical causes
- Spina bifida/myelomeningocele
- Spinal cord injury
- Spasticity and tone management, an abnormal increase in muscle stiffness that can cause problems with movement and function
- Stroke
- Traumatic brain injury or dysfunction (trauma, concussion, infection, tumor)
