Reproductive Anomalies Clinic
The Phoenix Children’s Reproductive Anomalies Clinic uses a team-based approach. We diagnose, treat and manage a wide range of congenital conditions that affect reproductive organs (CCARD).
We offer care for:
- Cloacal anomalies and exstrophy of the bladder. This condition prevents the pelvic organs from separating or forming, causing the abdominal wall to fail.
- Complete androgen insensitivity. The body doesn’t respond to certain hormones. It results in different physical development.
- Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). A missing enzyme that helps with hormone production causes a hormone imbalance.
- Hypospadias or epispadias. The opening of the urethra is not in the usual location.
- Klinefelter syndrome. The presence of an extra X chromosome causes this condition.
- Mixed gonadal dysgenesis. Also called chromosomal mosaicism, this condition impacts how reproductive organs form.
- Obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal anomaly (OHVIRA). Often identified at puberty, this is a rare congenital condition of the female urogenital tract that causes obstruction of menses.
- Turner syndrome. This genetic condition causes the underdevelopment of reproductive health organs.
- Urogenital sinus anomalies. A developmental difference where there is a single opening for the bladder and the vagina, where there should be more than one.
- Vaginal agenesis. Also called MRKH, patients are born with ovaries but do not have a uterus or a vagina.
